a desire to fly

While out on my walk the other morning, I watched a bird fly around in the sky. It was slightly breezy and the bird was just letting the wind carry him where ever it wanted. He didn’t fight the wind.

Someday, I would like to be able to fly like that. Ever since I was a little girl I’ve thought it would be fun to fly like a bird. I remember having a dream about it when I was a child and in my dream it was the most beautiful feeling.

I have never been the skydiving type. Roller coasters make me nervous and jumping out of planes from high altitudes scares me too. I’ve always said that I would love to try it someday BUT I would literally need someone to push me out of the plane…that first step is just such a big step.

I would much prefer to learn to fly where I started from the ground and then worked my way up. I wish I had hover craft capabilities, that way, I could take little baby steps up into the atmosphere. I could soar like an eagle…20 inches from the ground and then slowly inch my way up until I felt comfortable enough and then I could turn off the hover craft mode and away I’d go, flying high above the roof tops. Now that sounds fun to me!

What about you?

What would you want to attempt if fear wasn’t holding you back?

Today, what are some small (yet intentional) steps you could take towards achieving this goal?

What might be an area where a big step is needed instead…a skydiving step?

Great post Eileen! Stepping out into the blog world was a big skydiving step for me. Speaking in front of women and on the blog radio were even bigger skydiving steps. There are still things I would love to do but fear is there. I want to be able to put that fear aside and obey the voice of God. Thank you for this.

As I was reading this I was thinking, I want to be free to soar with God. I want to jump off the deep end into His amazing love. He has already called me to do some daredevil things like leading worship and I want to continue on that route with Him – the Scenic Route. 🙂
    Great post!

Beautiful post Eileen. Stepping out with this blog was a big step. Putting myself out there, sharing my vulnerabilites and my no so perfect self, letting people see my weak places. But it has been a blessing. I think when we step out in fear that is where we find the greatest blessings and gifts from God.

    Blessings to you my friend.

Jenifer, me too the blogging thing was a big step out for me as well!

Farm Girl, Thanks for stopping by my blog. Snorkling would be a good first step. I've often thought I would like to try scuba diving.

Lisa, even though it's scary to step out when we find the courage to do it's such a blessing isn't it?

Kandi, I for one am thrilled that you decided to step out of the boat. I've loved getting to know you!

Tiffini, Hmm…that's tough. My dad hates to fly too and will totally avoid it. Maybe take short little flights and, of course, Lots of prayer 🙂 Thanks for having me yesterday!

Funny, I have been sky diving (tandem) when I was in my 20's and a lot more adventurous… not so much any more! I do scuba-dive and that's a lot less threatening 🙂 I remember having those flying dreams too and now my oldest daughter tells me all of the time that she wishes she could fly… I think we all do. I seem to be fearful of so much now… even the mall… the teenagers scare me! I guess this trip to see my grandma is a leap for me. Even though I used to travel for a living and fly in and out of places no problem I seem to be fearful of flying to Chicago, renting a car and driving almost 4 hours to Iowa alone. I have really come to depend on my husband. So… it's just God and me… I won't be as lonely as I thought 🙂 Great post!

Funny you mention it Eileen, but skydiving has been on my "bucket list" for some time now. I have a healthy fear of heights, so it's a big step but it's certainly something I have interest in trying. I have a few fears I haven't completely conquered yet, but with God's comfort and strength I have no doubt I will. 🙂

    Have a Blessed Day!
