Billboard Moments

Last Sunday my church kicked off a new series called Roots, the key verses are Colossians 2:6-7 “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”

Keeping a grasp on these words we walked through Acts 1. It was after Christ’s resurrection, prior to him being taken up to heaven. One of the first things the pastor pointed out was verse 3 “After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.”

Convincing proofs

Those words reminded me of those funny billboards you see on the side of the interstate that say,  “Is this the sign you’ve been waiting for?”  ~ God

Talk about billboards!  This group of men were thoroughly convinced that Jesus was who he said he was. Jesus wasn’t just some cardboard cut out, this group of men saw him with their own eyes both before His death and after. In fact, he continued to appear to them for over a period of over 40 days!   That’s a lot of billboards!

I know we don’t have Jesus standing in the flesh in front of us today.

But, I’m thankful He stood in front of these men. I’m thankful they had proof beyond any doubt.  As the pastor pointed out, we know from the way most of these men died they were convinced that what they saw and heard was true and accurate.  They held onto those billboard moments up until they took their last breath.

I know we don’t have Jesus standing in the flesh in front of us today.

But, I’m thankful He still gives us personal billboards.  He still gives us convincing proof that He is who He says He is.  I was lost…now I’m found.  I was blind…now I see.  I was lame…now I walk.  He enters each of our stories and gives us a new set of eyes.  Eyes where we can see the billboards all around us!

Check out the billboard I saw a couple of nights ago!

When life gets rough, what billboards do you hold onto?

I am thankful too Eileen for the fact Jesus showed himself before those after He had risen from the tomb. I think about the scriptures that says we who have believed without seeing are blessed. For me every word of the bible is a bill board. Good post.

Having just received a fresh reason to flip out today, I’m glad to have stumbled across this post. I’ll count that as a billboard from Him, inviting me to remember what He’s already done with all the other messes. Thanks for the encouragement, Eileen. And happy belated birthday!

Oh goodness…it’s THAT kind of day. Sorry to hear it, Laurie. Remembering His faithfulness really does bring the peace through the chaos.
