Keep On Running!

Do you see what this means—all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we’d better get on with it. Strip down, start running—and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now he’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls! (Hebrews 12: 1-3 MSG)

I love this translation of the first few verses of Hebrews 12. Just reading it seems to “shoot adrenaline into my soul.” Sometimes I picture a runner approaching the finish line totally exhausted and yet picking up his pace because he can see the tape and the big clock on the side of the road. Sometimes I picture Rocky in the boxing ring fighting his heart out…I can even hear the Rocky theme song in my head.

I love how we have the perfect example to follow. Every single day we can choose to remember that He has already crossed the finish line, that He has already thrown the last punch. Our job is to just keep on running until we reach the tape. Our job is to stay on our feet (or get back on our feet) and continue until we hear the boxing bell. What an awesome day that will be!
