….And the Password is…

My son is definitely growing up in a high-tech generation. He uses words that did not exist when I was a kid or common words that have taken on new meanings, phrases like “click on the mouse”.

When he was three years old, I remember he asked me a question as I tucked him into bed. (I can’t recall what the question was.) I told him I didn’t know the answer to his question and would have to find out for him. His response made me laugh, “Maybe we can Google it tomorrow morning on the computer.”

When he was four I caught him frantically waving his hands in front of my computer screen while he was attempting to play a game…probably a Mickey Mouse game or Thomas The Tank Engine (now BOTH of THOSE characters were around when I was kid!).

I asked him, “What are you doing?”

“I’m trying to get it to load!”

I have noticed that even when I am playing pretend with him, things are just different. He makes up levels and we have to do things to advance to the next level. Once we accomplish those things (without losing too many lives) we can move on. Sometimes, the game has 10 levels which means Mom gets tired and needs to take a break every so often. That’s okay, because my son just “pauses” the game. We resume and “play” later.

I was reading Psalm 100:4 this morning and that’s what prompted me thinking about this.

First, I read the NIV version “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.”

Then, of course, I read The Message translation…”Enter with the password: “Thank-You!” Make yourselves at home, talking praise. Thank him. Worship him.”

I noticed that in this computer age, even the word password seems to have taken on a whole different meaning. When I was a kid, you had to know the secret password to get into a special club you and your friends were apart of. Today, it brings a whole different idea to mind. Nowadays, I think of my password as something I have to type into the computer right after I type my User Name.

It’s nice to know I can come into God’s presence with such a simple password. Once I am connected and on-line with Him I am prompted to enter “Thank-You” and granted full access to everything He has to offer on His site!

This is Eileen…logging off until the next post…
