Did you know that…

Yesterday was a significant day. Yesterday was June 2nd. Yesterday was Kimberly McMichael’s birthday. Who is Kimberly McMichael?

I went to grade school with her thirty-some years ago.

November 3rd is Sandra Mentzer’s birthday. I always remember her birthday when November rolls around. I went to grade school with her too.

These are some of the bizarre things my brain remembers… birth dates of people I used to know but have not seen for years and years.

A couple years ago, on October 7th, I realized it was Sherri Crater’s birthday. I found her on Facebook and sent her a friend request and wished her a happy birthday. I also remember what day Nicole Zahm was born, April 13. I found her on Facebook several years ago and we reconnected. It wasn’t on her birthday. I can’t actually remember the date we reconnected… now that would be totally weird if I could. And, Zach Edinger was either born December 24 or 26. Sorry, Zach, (where ever you are) I can’t remember for sure. And it drives me nuts too.

I said it yesterday, but I find it fascinating the things we are capable of remembering. Sometimes it’s random bits of information. Sometimes it’s a memory dear to our heart, one that we never want to forget. Other times, it’s memories we would love to forget, a painful or traumatic experience or our greatest failures and mistakes.

We remember things. So it’s so hard for me comprehend a God who chooses not to. When we enter into a relationship with Him, He chooses to forget the bad and ugly parts of us and will never think of them again. Not only does He tell us that our sins in our past, present and future are forgiven but He then goes one more step and assures us that the memory of our ugliness won’t even occupy a small space in His brain.

This just boggles my mind. God loves us so much that He chooses not to hold any sort of grudge. He won’t come back at some point and say…well, yeah…but what about that one time you did…

Instead, He says… why would you continue to beat yourself up over something my Son already took care of? It’s finished. You are free to love Me with all your heart.

Love Me. Get to know Me. Spend time with Me.

I—yes, I alone—will blot out your sins for my own sake
and will never think of them again. (Isaiah 43:25 NLT)

For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is his love for those who fear him;
as far as the east is from the west
so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
(Psalm 103:12 NIV)

I hadn't really thought of it like this before. We do remember all kinds of weird information, and hurts. We remember the hurts and the times we messed up. That's what I remember most. But God doesn't. How amazing is that? He chooses to forget. Wow! Great post!

Love this…too cute! My mind has the tendancy not to remember things…at least the ones that really matter. Thankful for His unfathomable grace today.

I can remember the strangest things that are so weird or even unimportant. But things I need to remember I totally forget! lol.

This is a great post Eileen.

Whoops, disregard my last comment as unintelligible. I was trying to do a two thumbs up. Let's try this:

Still doesn't look right, does it? 🙂

I'm with Lisa…I've never thought about it that way before…but you are right. God forgets our transgressions and focuses only his love on us. The miracle of grace. And thank God for that.

I hadn't looked at it from that angle Eileen… Very nice! 🙂

    Have a Blessed Weekend!

I knew it! Well…I was 50% sure! Oh my gosh!! How are you!? Your in NC? Me too! I’m over in the NE section near Elizabeth City. Wow. The internet is so amazing. Thanks for informing me…I will never ever forget again…believe me!

Excellent memory! NC too?! Wow imagine that! I was going to say you’re a long way from ranches but nope, I know there are plenty of horses in your area. I’ve been doing very well. Been in Charlotte since 1990. Married almost 17 years, have 3 kids and work in healthcare. How about you?

That’s great, Zach! So glad things are going well for you. Wow 17 years/3 kids…nice. Healthcare? Last we spoke, I think you were determined to be a professional baseball player…healthcare is a great second choice! When I graduated high school I actually entered nursing school for a semester but my mom died from breast cancer that same year and it really shook things up a bit. My heart just wasn’t in it. I ended up switching majors and graduatinhg from the UofA with an English degree. I moved to NC over ten years ago…a job in sales brought me here…thankfully. I met my husband here and we’ve been married 10 years this year. We have one son. I love it. Currently, I work for an animal hospital part-time. It provides a little extra income. But, I like the flexibility of being home with my son when he gets home from school most days and having time to write.

Have you kept in touch with anyone from elementary school days? Like I mentioned in the post I did find Sherry and Nicole again on Facebook. If you are on Facebook, I’d love to connect. I’m under Eileen Muldowney Knowles.
