PROMPT: REACH

“He reached down from on high and took hold of my hand, he drew me out of deep waters…He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.”  Psalm 18: 16,19

In case you didn’t know this from my tagline at the top of this blog, I kind of have this thing for verses in scripture that talk about spacious places and us being in those spacious places.

The first verse that came to mind when I saw the word prompt today was “Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness stretches to the skies.” Psalm 36:5

But this verse from Psalm 18 was the second one to pop into my mind. I love the following reminder this morning: Christ’s love doesn’t only reach up and out…but it is also willing to reach down.

This truth fills my heart with joy and my days with hope.

Another image in Psalm 18 that I love is from the second half of verse 35, “you stoop down to make me great.”

Our holy and perfect Creator stoops down for us.

God stoops down. God reaches down…for us.  And He does this so our feet can be planted some place spacious.

Years ago, when I found myself drowning in a sea of wrong choices, this truth about the depth of His love for me changed my life forever.  His hand was reaching down to me and the only thing I needed to do was make the decision to reach up and grab on…He did the rest.

When I reached, He changed my heart.
When I reached, He did the heavy lifting.
And yes, when I reached, He set my feet in a spacious place.

And, sometimes, the view still takes my breath away.

Thank you for this post! What a beautiful word picture you painted for me this morning! As I was reading this post, I could picture God’s hands reaching down to me and my hand reaching up to meet His.
