Friendships Happen

Friends come and friends go,
but a true friend sticks by you like family.(Proverbs 18:24 MSG)

I hope that when you read this verse, a certain friend instantly pops into your thoughts. Everyone needs at least one friend like this to walk with them through life. I have felt blessed to have a handful of these special people in my life. Some live miles away from me now, but I know I can count on them. They are there to celebrate the joys with me and to make me laugh until my stomach aches. They are there through the dark times too. Their words of encouragement, their listening ear and their warm hugs are there to lift me up.

God never intended for us to go it alone. We need friends. I moved to North Carolina nine years ago, knowing absolutely nobody. Within a month, I found a church family. I quickly joined the Sunday night ladies bible study. One night, as we were sharing, I broke down in tears. I confessed the ache on my heart….I need a friend!

It just so happened to be the month of June. It just so happened that a girl named Michelle was in that same ladies bible study. It just so happened Michelle was a teacher and was on summer vacation. Michelle looked at me and said….”I’ll be your friend!”

And so, a friendship began. There was an instant connection….an instant bond. We sat together at church on Sunday mornings and people were surprised when they would find out we had just met each other. We were so comfortable with one another.

Over the past decade, Michelle and I have done bible studies together, prayed together, laughed together, and cried together. I found out after our friendship grew that, it just so happened, Michelle had been praying for a friend to come into her life.

God never intended for us to go it alone.

You're absolutely right… He did not intend for us to go it alone! I have a similar experience with my best friend Kelli. Not only did He bless us with our friendship, but we never would have guessed the things we've done for Him together! Blessings!

Thanks you both. It still amazes me that when we look back on how friends enter our lives that God orchestrates the whole thing. It was part of His plan. Love that and am so grateful for that!

I have a best friend Deb that I do not get to see very often, but just knowing she is there for me when I need her and I'm there for her is a wonderful feeling! Sweet story!

I wonder how much lonliness could be solved if women would just do as you did and honestly confess, I need a friend." And other women like Michelle would just faitfully assert, "I'll be your friend!"

    Precious. ~ Rachel
