Hope in Winter

Some additional thoughts came to mind this morning after writing yesterday’s post. Sometimes when we find ourselves in a sea of uncertainty, we are tempted to retreat back to the familiar. However, if we make the conscious choice (the scary choice) to remain in a place of vulnerability and in a place where there are more questions than answers, something amazing takes place.

It is often right there, in the midst of the darkness and lack of understanding when peace shows up, when healing is found, when our doubts are put to rest, and Hope promises to take us by the hand and lead us the rest of the way.

Today, on the drive home from church I caught a glimpse of a red cardinal.  I love spotting these vibrantly colored birds in the dead of winter.  Whenever I see them, I am reminded of the beauty of this Hope that promises to never fly away…even in the harshest of seasons. Today, this little beauty with wings reminded me of these words from Emily Dickinson:

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all.

Stay warm, Bill! The predicted snow missed us down here but a -2 wind chill is darn cold for Georgia!
