We attended church in Santo Domingo the day after we arrived in the Dominican. The service was a contemporary, outdoor service. I only speak a little bit of Spanish so I could only understand bits and pieces of the message. But the praise band played two familiar songs. Lord You Are Good was the first song I recognized.
As the congregation sung the song in Spanish, I sung along in English…”Lord,You are good and Your mercy endureth forever. People from every nation and tongue, from generation to generation, we worship you…” What an appropriate song to sing when standing and worshiping side by side with brothers and sisters from another culture. At the end of the the song the praise leader switched to English and we sung with her “we worship you hallelujah, hallelujah, we worship you, hallelujah, hallelujah. For who You are. You are good.”
The other song I recognized was a solo that was sung by one of the members of the praise team, I Can Only Imagine. I recognized the song by the first three notes played. I love this song…in English or in Spanish. It was neat to watch somebody sing their heart out to God. I might not understand Spanish, but God certainly does. I think it was a sweet, sweet sound to His ears.
I listened to the song again this morning and it brought me to tears.
I can only imagine the day when there will be no more tears, no more pain, no more hardships and no more goodbyes. What a day that will be!
