Why?
Here’s an excerpt. But when you have a chance, I would encourage you to read the whole thing.
“You, LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light. With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall. As for God, his way is perfect: The LORD’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him. For who is God besides the LORD? And who is the Rock except our God? It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he causes me to stand on the heights. He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. You give me your shield of victory, and your right hand sustains me; you stoop down to make me great. You provide a broad path for my feet, so that my ankles do not give way.”
Psalm 18 reminds me of how great God is. How big He is and how small I am in comparison. It reminds me of how much I need Him to be the one in control. It reminds me of the past and how faithful God has been during battles in my own life that threatened to consume me. It reminds me of what can be accomplished when I am not depending on my limited strength and endurance. It fills me with hope by reminding me that no matter what comes along today or tomorrow, I can trust Him. I can depend on Him.
I love remembering how His mighty hand has worked in my life.
I sometimes think we get comfortable when things are going good in our lives. But the truth is, I desperately need Him everyday. When my world is falling apart…I need Him. When life is going along great…I need Him.
I am reminded of the verses in Ephesians about daily putting on the full armor of God.

“And that about wraps it up. God is strong, and he wants you strong. So take everything the Master has set out for you, well-made weapons of the best materials. And put them to use so you will be able to stand up to everything the Devil throws your way. This is no afternoon athletic contest that we’ll walk away from and forget about in a couple of hours. This is for keeps, a life-or-death fight to the finish against the Devil and all his angels.
Be prepared. You’re up against far more than you can handle on your own. Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued, so that when it’s all over but the shouting you’ll still be on your feet. Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation are more than words. Learn how to apply them. You’ll need them throughout your life. God’s Word is an indispensable weapon. In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out.” (Ephesians 6:10-18 MSG)
I need Him. Three very powerful but so often forgotten words. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. They were a real encouragement to me today.
