Yesterday I wrote a post talking about how our Need IS the Need. This morning, I read the familiar story of Martha and Mary, two sisters who reacted differently to hosting Jesus in their home. I’ve read or heard this story a thousand times, but today I noticed how the NIV translated verse 42 ” …but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
but only one thing is needed
And what did Mary choose? Verse 39 tells us: “…Mary sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what He said.”
Mary understood that need IS the need.
Mary recognized something we all have a hard time remembering as our day gets packed full, our to-do-list grows longer and we get sucked into believing that busy is more important and more productive than being.
Yet, in this story, Jesus reminds us only one thing is needed.
The need IS the need.
Come, He reminds us, sit at My feet and listen.
