My Christ

I was frustrated the other day. I read a couple articles where certain groups of Christians were highlighted and shown to be intolerant and judgmental. The media seems to love focusing on these stories. I am outraged by these stories as well. I am frustrated because I think there are a large number of people in the world who will only see and hear these skewed ideas of what it means to be a Christian.

The problem is, all these stories that the media likes to pick up and focus heavily on are not what it means to be a follower of Christ.

The message of Christ is clear. We only have to read through the Gospels to discover it.

Christ’s message above anything else is love…and everything love encompasses. Love God with all the your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind. Love your neighborhood as yourself. Forgive each other. Accept each other. Don’t judge each other. Serve each other.

This is the truth.

The media loves to throw stories out there to shock us and they do good job too. What the media presents to us is a distorted view of Christianity. It is not the Christ I know. It is not the Christ I fell in love with. The Christ I know promises me freedom because of His work on the cross. He offers me His grace. A free gift I get to embrace everyday.

That’s my Christ.
