“Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”(Philippians 3: 12-14)
I love Paul’s attitude in this verse. It’s the first verse that comes to mind when I think about the start of a new year.
This is how I read the verse…
Look, I’m not perfect. I haven’t got it all figured out. But I am continuing to move forward, forgetting the past and keeping my eyes on the goal, because the one thing I know with complete certainty is that Christ is the answer to it all.
Keeping my eyes on the goal.
This will continue to hold the top spot on my list of goals this year. One of my goals is to keep my eyes on the goal. But this wont happen all by itself. It will happen, or not happen, by the choices I make. I have to continue to make the conscience choice to reorient my life so that my eyes are facing and feet are moving in the right direction.
Happy New Year!
So let’s keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision—you’ll see it yet! Now that we’re on the right track, let’s stay on it. (Philippians 3:15-16 MSG)
