New and Improved

My son sat in the living room the other morning watching a Bugs Bunny cartoon.

“Hey, Sean, do you know I used to watch that show when I was a kid?”

“I know, Mom, but this is the new and improved one.”

Ouch.

Sigh.

Nothing like my seven year old to remind me that I am getting older.

The new and improved one.

His comment made me think of this funny scene from Fried Green Tomatoes.

Okay, I guess I am getting older. I just showed you all a clip from Fried Green Tomatoes. Not to make anyone else feel old but that movie was released in 1991.

That’s 20 years ago.

That’s crazy.

Anyway, back to my son’s comment about Bugs Bunny.

The new and improved one.

I’ve been pondering his response and here are some thoughts that have come to mind.

New doesn’t always mean better. Sometimes new ends up being worse. Remember the New Coke? Okay, maybe you don’t. It came out in 1985. It bombed.

The new and improved one.

New and improved is only guaranteed when we look at it in the context of our relationship with Christ. We either live in Christ or we do not. We either stand condemned or we do not. Christ promises us that a new and improved life is waiting for us when we choose to place our trust in Him.

The improvement that comes from life in Christ is above all else…positional. We move from being dead in our sin to being alive in Him. We will continue to have seasons of difficulty but no problem in this life is so big that it can change our position in Him. We now belong to Christ! We are new and improved. Now the tricky part. We have to decide to live our lives as if we believe it!

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! (2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV)

Hi Eileen. I really like what you said in the last paragraph about nothing changes our position in Him. I think its us who have to overcome thinking something can change that.

Oh my goodness. I remember that movie and can not believe it has been 20 years. My kids do the same with shows or toys that I had when I was younger but they think are much cooler now that they are improved.

I love this scripture. In Him I am a NEW creation!!!

New and Improved. Not only am I improved, but I look around me with new eyes and everything looks clearer. I see people and their heartaches rather than their imperfections. I really want to be where your chair is — book and everything. 🙂

    Blessings,

It doesn't mattermuch of we don't live our lives as if we believe it.

Absolutely. This reminds me of this verse: "I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand" (John 10:28).
Great post. Thank you for sharing!

    Wow Eileen… New Coke… 1985? Really? ~sigh~ 😉

I loved your statement "…no problem in this life is so big that it can change our position in Him." So very true! But as you said, it's up to us to live our lives as if we believed it!

Great post, and I love the changes to the site!

Wow! Spent the afternoon out at the park and came home to some very nice comments! On my way into town I heard the song by Jason Grey, I Am New on the radio. It seemed so appropriate after writing this post. Thanks so much for stopping by…nice to meet some new faces too. 🙂

Our improvement is positional — I like that! I'm choosing to put my trust in Him, and to take the scenic route as much as possible.
