Second Chance Beauty

QUESTION: Would you rather read a Christian book about “Encouragement” or about “Second Chances?” (thanks!)

I read this quote from Charles Specht on Twitter last night. It’s an interesting question and my response to his tweet was:  “a second chance is encouragement. The best kind!”

While I know the topic of encouragement encompasses more, I went to bed last night thinking about that question. Personally, there is nothing more encouraging to me than reading or hearing stories about second chances. Second chance stories are packed full of hope and redemption, which I tend to need reminders of on a daily basis.

Humanity itself is a second chance story. When Jesus agreed to enter our mess and then nail that mess to a cross…I don’t think anything can top that story of second chance encouragement.

As I drifted off to sleep last night, I was comforted just thinking about the hope found in a second chance. As I was typing these words this morning, 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 came to mind. I love the Message translation.

“So we’re not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace. These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us. There’s far more here than meets the eye. The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we can’t see now will last forever.”

That’s the beauty we get to open our eyes to every single day! Every single day is another opportunity to live out this gift of LIFE we’ve been given. The gift of a second chance.

Today and everyday, I hope you unwrap that gift.  Celebrate that gift.  Pass that gift on to others!

Yes Eileen, God is the ultimate encourager who specializes in second chances! One of my life verses is Joel 2:25 “I will redeem the years the locusts have eaten…” Thanks for the morning reminder!

Just before I settle in for sleep, I thank God for the day just finished AND the one to come; for another chance to do the work of Jesus: giving, praying, loving and (sometimes) serving.
I never much believed in second chances for myself until I came to the Lord last fall.
Forgiving remains a regular struggle, but I am making progress. At least, in Jesus, I have a lofty place to which to look.
    Blessings.

“Forgiving remains a regular struggle, but I am making progress.” I get that, Chris. I am thankful it’s a journey of growth and learning and letting go.

I love reading and hearing stories of Second chances. Thrills my heart to hear people give God glory for another chance after royally messing up the first one. ‘Course I believe in more than just second chances. i am certainly one who has had more chances than he deserves.
