Storms

Tropical Storm Nicole is bringing much rain to the northeast corner of North Carolina. I woke up several times last night and just listened to the downpour. It’s been raining now for nearly three days straight. As much as I don’t like the flooding problems and the tornadoes these rains bring, there is something exciting about a storm like this.

These storms are different and out of the ordinary from normal showers. Most of the time, I am simply amazed by how much water comes out of the sky. I started thinking about changes I’ve gone through in life. Change brings with it a measure of excitement. The change is sometimes scary and sometimes uncomfortable but sometimes there is also a degree of excitement.

I am a very routine oriented person. As much as I tend to resist it, change is necessary for me. Life without the occasional tropical storm would be a life where I was never challenged to step out of my comfort zone.

Yesterday, there was a video going around Facebook of this lady who was speaking about being an abortion survivor. The drugs did not kill her when she was in her mother’s womb and she was born alive. Talk about a storm to live through! She now shares this miracle with others. She said something in the video that I really loved, “God has a way of making the most miserable thing beautiful.”

Gosh, isn’t that the truth? God can take not only the inconvenient rain we experience but also the most devastating storms we live through and turn them into something beautiful!

We have much to learn from the storms in our life.

I think sometimes, too, we need that soaking rain because maybe we don't realize just how dry we really are. Thank you for this thought today.
