Sometimes inspiration or ideas are birthed in the simplest, most common places. Today, an idea came to life while packing my son’s lunch bag. He is heading off to day 4 of summer fun camp. As I peeled his orange, I was reminded of a statement I posted on Facebook not too long ago.
Simple pleasures: Oranges that don’t resist the peeling process.
Have you ever come across a stubborn orange? If you have, you know what I’m talking about. So much more work goes into the peeling process when the rind does not wish to pull away from the orange. It has a death grip on the orange. If orange rinds could talk, it is at this moment when they seem to be screaming, “I’m NOT letting go!”
Sometimes, we are much like an orange rind. The Lord begins to peel away at us in hopes of getting down to the good stuff and we hold on and resist. No, Lord, I’m NOT letting go! His goal is to reveal the beauty hidden underneath and we resist the process. We dig our heels (or peels, I’m sorry I couldn’t resist) in and make the process messier than it needs to be.
What about you? Are there any parts of you resisting the peeling process? Decide today, to loosen your grip and allow Him to show you the sweet potential beneath the surface.
Ouch! Excellent analogy. Sure makes me think…
I want to keep my peeling on girl! But I also want to be submissive to His will…
Hi Eileen – excellent analogy, I kind of like the idea of being an orange, a willingly peeled one!
God bless
Tracy
Who knew an orange held so much wisdom? 😉 Love when God teaches us lessons this way. While it may seem safer with my peeling on, I want God's will to be done. I was just telling Him this morning to keep chiseling. There's still much work to be done. Great post, Eileen!
What a great analogy and wonderful lesson found in an orange. Don't you love when you see God in the smallest of things? There have been so many times I have said, "No Lord, I'm not letting go." Letting go is hard but all it takes is once. One time to let go and let God…then the next times isn't so bad! Great post!
Great lesson… yes, I'm resisting and I know it… I'm just so glad that He doesn't give up on me! Thank you for this "sweet" encouragement!
Totally awesome analogy!! Trying to let those peels go over here…
What a great lesson Eileen! Powerful
Awesome analogy Eileen! I know I've been guilty more than once of resisting God's "peeling" me.
Wow… Convicted by an orange!! 😉
Great post!
Have a Blessed Day!
Oh, yes, I agree with the other comments here. Great analogy! Praying to let Him peel, chisel, and make new! 🙂
LOVE the analogy! Definitely asking God if there's areas where I'm digging my heels in and resisting the peeling process. Thanks for the challenge!
oh mercy eileen…not another one! It been one of those weeks..to busy to even visit so I get a few minutes and sit down…and everywhere I am reading the words are ministering to me..right to where I am..ever had that happen?
Sometimes maybe it is good to be quiet for awhile and listen and absorb deep..thankyou:) I was just asking God to show me what He wants me to see in what happened today…revealing the beauty underneath so I can let go
