Topic: Grit
“As you learn more and more how God works, you will learn how to do your work. We pray that you’ll have the strength to stick it out over the long haul—not the grim strength of gritting your teeth but the glory-strength God gives. It is strength that endures the unendurable and spills over into joy, thanking the Father who makes us strong enough to take part in everything bright and beautiful that he has for us.”
(Colossians 9b-12 The Message)
I love this translation. So often we try to make it from one day to the next on our own strength. We grit our teeth and push through. But in these verses, Paul reminds us that there is a better way. We can either choose the limited strength found in us, or we can choose to tap into the glory-strength found in Him.
One strength fades. One strength endures.
One strength exhausts us. One strength fills us.
One strength tries. One strength relies.
Our grit or His grace.
Which will you choose today?
ummm…i choose God’s Strength! lol…
when I am weak, he is strong
Good choice, Arny!
God’s strength!!!!! I am weak! I am wishy washy! I need God!!
Me too, Jenifer
GREAT….thank you!!!
Thanks for stopping by, Bobbi
Beautiful contrast you’ve portrayed here between His strength and ours. How often do I falter because I am relying on my own strength? Your words are a great reminder to rely on His strength. Great post!
Thanks, Denise. I agree. We falter more often than we need to.
I love that translation, too! You have laid it out so well here, Eileen.
It’s a good translation. I offered a fresh look at a familiar verse for me today.
Hi Eileen,
Ah, so many times I choose to grit my teeth, then fail, then hide from God in foolish shame. To choose grace seems too easy at the beginning yet is a consistently self effacing choice of humility that enables us to endure for the long term. Thanks for great thoughts to ponder today.
I can relate, Mike. Not sure why we think we can hide from God. And then, in the running and the gritting we miss out on so many things that He has waiting for us.
I use his strength along with mine.. I believe God gives us people around us to help us through the tough times. God can’t show his face, but he can show up through people and things that help us.
