The rest of your story

“Your story may not have such a happy beginning but that doesn’t make you who you are, it is the rest of your story, who you choose to be.”

We went to see Kung Fu Panda 2 this weekend and this quote from the movie made me smile. So often we get stuck in life because we dwell on the beginning of our stories. We allow the beginning to dictate how we live today. We get stuck playing the “If Only” game.

If only this had been different…then my life would be different. Our pasts often become a crutch we lean on today. Our pasts become the excuse we use for staying where we are.

But the truth is, every day we are given the opportunity to change how our stories play out. The rest of our story is the part we still get to write. And, as long as we are still breathing, it’s not too late to begin living the rest of your story.

It’s a story which will either be lived out boldly or propped up on a crutch of excuses. The choice is always ours.

A minister I love has this motto "You can't change your past but you CAN change your future." We can choose to use the past as a crutch, as you said, and stay there. Or we can choose to turn it all around. Great post.

Oh, I want to live out the rest of my story boldly! I have always said that my past doesn't define me… I will not be that person who is a result of what happened to her… I will be who I am supposed to be despite my past! Great encouragement!

Amen Eileen! We've all had struggles in life, some far more than others, but it's what we make of our lives going forward that determines whether our past issues defined us, or we defined them.

    Wonderful post!

    Have a Blessed Day!

God's mercies are new every morning. Our past doesn't have to define us. We can use it to move us closer to God though. I want to live the rest of my life boldly for Jesus!
