The Test of Time

Signpost of Time

Recently my 9-year-old son was watching a special behind-the-scenes show about Disney.  They did several interviews with the Imagineers, the design branch of The Walt Disney Company. At one point they mentioned how this creative team has been around since the 1950s. My son’s response to this news: “Cool!”

“Why is that so cool?”  I asked.

“Because, the fact that they have been around for so long means that they might still be around when I grow up. I’d like to be an Imagineer.” he replied.

“That WOULD be cool.” I agreed.

His reasoning made me smile. I love the hope packed up in his response. Maybe since this job has stood the test of time, then there’s a high probability, it will still be there when I am old enough to become what I choose to become.

The test of time.

There is comfort found when we discover things in life that stand firm. We like secure jobs, stable relationships, and steady incomes.

The longer I live the more grateful I am for those things in my life with firm foundations. Because, the more we live life, the more we recognize how precious dependable things are. Life and seasons can change so quickly and without warning. When you come across something that is dependable and secure you want to hold onto it.  You want to cherish it.

That is one of the things I treasure about Christ. He is dependable. He has stood the test of time. He is there for me to choose every single day. I could choose Him at 9 years old. And, if I’m still on this earth in 50 years, He will still be there for me to choose when I am 90. That’s some comforting Good News!

“We give You thanks, O Lord God Almighty, The One who is and who was and who is to come, Because You have taken Your great power and reigned. (Rev 11:17)
