My church just finished up a series on the importance of creating margin in our lives. This past Sunday, we were reminded that the one thing we need to make time for is pursuing the Lord. The pastor took some time to share some one thing passages in scripture.
“One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple” (Psalm 27:4)
Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” (Mark 10:21)
Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, (Philippians 3:13)
When I arrived home on Sunday, I decided to look at this concept of one thing awhile longer.
I came across John 9. It’s the story of the man who was born blind and then one day he encountered Jesus. After this encounter, he was able to see.
The Pharisees interrogated and insulted the newly sighted man. They could not wrap their minds around the idea that this man, Jesus, could do such a thing.
I love the healed man’s response.
“I don’t know whether he is a sinner,” the man replied. “But one thing I know: I was blind, and now I can see!” John 9:25
Here’s my paraphrase. I don’t give a hoot what y’all say about this man Jesus. All I know, and all I care about, is this one thing. I have been living in darkness my entire life. I came across this man Jesus and for the first time…I can see. I can see!
The one thing we need to make time for in our lives is Jesus. The one thing we need to do is pursue him.
Why?
Because, as this man discovered, Jesus is the one thing that will completely transform our lives.
Dark becomes light. Old becomes new. Broken becomes healed. The lost become found.
When Jesus touches your life, people can dispute and challenge and mock…but it really doesn’t matter what people say, because transformation will always trump skepticism. You were blind and now you can see!
Linking up with Jen today over at Finding Heaven. Come join in!
Love your words today Eileen…
I could help but sing aloud, Jars of Clay's Liquid song…from their debut album…
They sing "this is the one thing that i know"
in the chorus…
Awesome!
Thanks.
The ONE THING I know……
"Dark becomes light. Old becomes new. Broken becomes healed. The lost become found."
So thankful to know the ONE who transforms….
Beautiful, inspiring, HOPE-filed words….pointing my heart in the direction of the ONE THING that matters.
Thank you, Eileen-
Have a blessed day

Oh Eileen, I love this! I don't care what they say, the ONE THING I know, I was in the dark but now I can see! Oh praise God, that excites me!!
This is SO wonderful! It will really simplify life if I can order everything around the ONE Priority. Thanks for passing along the excellent insight you gained.
(I'm here from SDG.)
Arny, just listened to the song. Had not heard it before, but appropriate!
Stacy, "So thankful to know the ONE who transforms…." Me too!
Jenifer, hard to argue with once being in the dark and now seeing, isn't it?
Janice, I agree. If we could just be disciplined in this ONE area, it changes everything. Thanks for coming by Janice!
Can you hear me clapping? This is one amazingly invigorating post and I LOVE IT!
It fits beautifully in my heart, as I have been learning so much about caring only about what He thinks, as opposed to the world.
YES!!! It doesn't matter what this world may say, I am confident of this One Thing. So very, very good!
Love it Eileen!
It's funny, but as I reach out to people who aren't walking with Christ, it's amazing the amount of skepticism that there is. We live in a very "me-centered" society, and for many it's beyond belief that they can have that completeness from something they can't see, hear or touch. Watching God work on their hearts when they open up to Him is a beautiful thing.
Great post Eileen!
Have a Blessed Day!
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a sinner like me
I once was lost but now I'm found
Was blind but now I see.
That "one thing" I do know!
Loved this, Eileen.
Blessings,
Pamela
