Oh, the joys of home ownership. Sometimes there are days I kind of wish I had a landlord I could call up and say…”Hey, landlord, can you please come fix this??
We seem to be having a run of things breaking and needing to be fixed in our home. It’s hard not to get frustrated. Don’t get me wrong, I am very grateful to be a homeowner. I have had the opportunity to go on two mission trips to the Dominican Republic in the last couple years. All I have to do is think back on some of the living conditions I witnessed in the DR to really appreciate the roof I have over my head.
However, sometimes I think it would be nice to have someone I could hand our repair problems off to. That was the one thing I appreciated about renting a home as opposed to owning my own home. Plumbing issues? No problem, 1 (800) CALL-LANDLORD, and for no extra charge (to us) Mr. Landlord would come along and fix the problem.
I got to thinking this morning about our current home repair needs. They are nothing compared to big life problems. When I look at the big picture, our problems are simply inconveniences to our normal everyday routine…potentially expensive inconveniences…but still. They are not life shattering problems.
This morning, I am thankful for my Heavenly Landlord. The One I can depend on to be there for me when things in my life begin to fall apart. I don’t have to attempt to fix everything all by myself. God has given me His direct number and waits for me to call on Him for help.
There are times in my life when I am tempted to try and fix these problems all by myself, in my own strength. But, I normally end up spinning my wheels or making the problem worse. This is because I wasn’t designed to be the landlord over my own life. I don’t have the strength or the knowledge to put it all back together. But, thankfully, He does.
