Waiting Like Watchmen

Before moving on to today’s post, I wanted to thank those who linked up yesterday to the first edition of Into the Beautiful. It’s been fun reading through all your words! If you missed it yesterday, don’t worry. The link will be open all week. Feel free to join in anytime.

In the early morning hours long before the sun was due to make an appearance, my eyes opened abruptly. The first word flooding my heart and jolting me awake watchmen. Then this verse followed.

“My souls waits for the Lord
more than watchmen wait for the morning,
more than watchmen wait for the morning.”
Psalm 130:6

This happened a couple of nights ago. I had forgotten about it until just now. I love when God taps me on the shoulder in the middle of the night. I love when He reminds me of an amazing promise. He is coming back!

My job is to wait expectantly and eagerly for Him.

This morning I read Psalm 130 in its entirety.

Here are the promises:

with you there is forgiveness.
with you there is unfailing love.
with you there is full redemption.

With You

I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning.

You are my Hope!

This is one of my favorite scripture passages, so simple but very significant for my spiritual journey. We can be watchman on the wall in the here and now, seeing into the future amidst the every day. Getting wisdom as we watch and move forward. My first thoughts in the morning are often prophetic too. I’ve learned to pay attention to them. Lovely reflection Eileen and I’ll plan to link up with you next week.

Great words, Shelly. I agree, God seems to do a lot of talking at night. Many blog posts that I’ve written are inspired from dreams or thoughts placed on my heart at night. I would love if you linked up Shelly. I look forward to your posts!

I love it. And in so many scriptural areas the watchmen are mentioned… and they are intensely important for the salvation and growth and protection of so many others. When you/we are awakened or notified that we must be on “Watch” for others, it’s very important to take on that very important and basic God-job. Thanks for reminding and sharing.

I’ve got a friend in her 90s who is awakened as a night watchman (or watchwoman, I guess). She wakes at 3 a.m., prays for an hour, then goes back to bed.

I love how the psalmist repeats that phrase.
