“Lord,” said Philip, “show us the Father, and that’s enough for us.”
Jesus said to him, “Have I been among you all this time without your knowing Me, Philip? The one who has seen Me has seen the Father. John 14: 8-9
What struck me this morning as I read Philip’s request was how much I could relate to it. Sometimes when we talk to Jesus we say to Him: Lord if you show us X then we’ll believe Y. I love the answer Jesus gives because it’s often the same answer He still gives.
The answer you are looking for has been with you the entire time. Have you not had eyes to see and know this?
This statement comes shortly after Jesus tells his disciples that He is going away to prepare a place for them and that they know the way to where He is going.
Again, I love how much I can relate to the confused comment/question Thomas puts out there.
“Lord,” Thomas said, “we don’t know where You’re going. How can we know the way?” John 14:5
Thomas was looking for Jesus to hand him the map. He wanted the turn-by-turn instructions (go up three blocks and make a right at the Piggly Wiggly). He wanted the Google map address and Jesus says I AM the map. I AM true north. Life in Me will lead you home. Follow Me.
Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6
Sharing the song “Sweet Little Jesus Boy” this morning. At Christmastime, my mom and I used to love listening to Anne Murray’s version together when I was little girl. I remember the lyrics having a profound impact on my heart. “We didn’t know You’d come to save us, Lord…to take our sins away. Our eyes were blind, we couldn’t see. We didn’t know it was You.”
Lord, today, help us to know it’s YOU!
