When…a hope-filled word

“But I have prayed for you, Simon,(Peter) that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” Luke 23:32 NIV

The above verse resonates with me. I love the way The Message translates it too…

“Simon, I’ve prayed for you in particular that you not give in or give out. When you have come through the time of testing, turn to your companions and give them a fresh start.”

These verses were spoken by Jesus shortly before Peter denied three times that he even knew Christ. Peter, the man who walked on water with Jesus…caved when his faith was put to the test.

This reminded me, that as we journey through life, we will likely fail some of the greatest tests of our lives. But, I love the hope Jesus gives Peter in these words. “And when you have turned back.” “When you have come through the time of testing.”

When…not if.  This is what I want you to do, Peter…

You pass on what you have learned.

Encourage your companions along the road
Strengthen them
Give them a fresh start

It occurred to me that this is one reason I write everyday. For a decade, I was the follower who ran away in fear. I denied Christ with my actions and with my words. And that fear held me captive. I was shackled to it every day.

Until the day…when I turned back.

The chains broke and I was free!

When you make it back and you discover that Jesus is still there loving on you, how do you keep something like that to yourself?  And why would you want to?

I know, in part, what Jesus was saying to Peter.

Your biggest mistakes can be used for my glory when you use them to help others.

Thank you, Jesus, for restoring us and for Your ability to redeem(and use) even our biggest failures.

If I haven’t said it lately, Jesus…you rock!

Take a moment to think about the biggest life test that you have failed.  Have you seen God redeem it for His Glory?

Are you currently running fearfully in the wrong direction?  If so, remember.  When you turn back…God has big plans to use your journey to help another!

Hi Eileen – funny how this last week twice and now a third time I am reminded to pass on what I have learnt and use it to help others. So glad to be able to get over stuff with Jesus, but even better to be able to help others see Him by using our pain.
    God bless and great post

Hi, Eileen. We are neighbors at SDG this week. Thanks so much for this encouraging post. I love that idea of turning back and finding Jesus is already there loving on me. Such a comforting thought! May you grow deeper into His love today.

I love how you wrote this. I am so glad that my mistakes can be used for his glory. That’s very comforting. It’s reassuring to know that I don’t always “have to be perfect”, He’s got it all under control. 🙂

God loves us. It’s that simple. He knows everything about us, even our worse moments and thoughts and feelings, and he still loves us. And it’s because of this love that I want to turn back and follow him and encourage us. Thanks for your thoughts, Eileen.
