Breadcrumb in the Sky

My son introducing the new star for our tree

Where can I go from your Spirit?

He’s the God who pursues. He goes to great lengths to capture our hearts.

Even the darkness will not be dark to you, the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.

I read these verses in Psalm 139 this morning and smiled. So much hope. He is the Light in our darkness. It made me think of Psalm 18, one of my favorite Psalms.

“You, Oh Lord keep my light burning; my God turns my darkness into light…He stoops down to make us great.”

In a few days we celebrate the night God stooped down to earth on our behalf. He showed up for us. He arrived on the scene and made His light available for each of us to follow.

The shepherds saw the light. It was a bread crumb in the sky, leading them safely home to the Father who had pursued them all the way from heaven.

This light

shining forever brightly in a world filled with so much darkness

This light

our constantly present bread crumb on this path of life.

This light

brings us home.

We have a star on our tree too. On Christmas eve, I’m going to read the Christmas story from the Bible with only the star lit up; I’ll turn off the other lights on the tree. It’s a powerful reminder that though the story began in the past, it’s still happening right in front of our eyes.
