Forget Me Not

Hem your blessings with thankfulness so they don’t unravel.

~Author Unknown

Lately, I have been thinking about gratitude. Ongoing gratitude is so important in our daily walk with the Lord. I think this is why I tend to take so many trips down memory lane. These short trips always help me to have an attitude of gratitude.

Humans sure have a tendency to be forgetful creatures, at least when it comes to the good things that we should remember! I think of the words of Psalm 106 which gives an account of the Israelite’s continued disobedience despite knowing all the reasons why they should have remained obedient.

“But they soon forgot what he had done and did not wait for his counsel.” v.13
“They forgot the God who saved them, who had done great things in Egypt.” v.21

I think we could just as easily insert our own names into these verses.

But Eileen soon forgot what He had done and did not wait for his counsel.
Eileen forgot the God who saved her, who had done great things in her life.

There is a saying that is often heard through out 12 step recovery programs. Keeping it green. It means that we don’t forget where we have been. We keep it fresh in our minds. We regularly remind ourselves of God’s grace in our lives.

I don’t ever want to forget what God has done in my life. I don’t want to take for granted the spacious place he’s planted my feet and all the undeserved blessings he’s placed in my life.

O my soul, bless God. From head to toe, I’ll bless his holy name!
O my soul, bless God, don’t forget a single blessing! (Psalm 103:1-2 MSG)

Even though we dont like to remember our mistakes, it is what God asks of us. In fact He wasnts us to share them with others…how he saved us! In Exodus God told the people to remember how he delivered them! You would think after waters parted they would have never forgotten that!! We must remember the desert times. Not necessarily how we got there but what we did while we were there. This is a great reminder. Between that and the humility blog you did this week I have been really encouraged by YOU!!Have a great weekend girlie!

Great post. I don't ever want to forget His goodness and blessings. So many times we forget Him when good things happen and give the credit elsewhere. I want to praise Him.

Wonderful post Eileen. Gratitude for all that He has Blessed us with is essential to our growth in Him. When times are good, we need to Praise him and when things aren't so perfect we need to praise Him even more!

    Have a Blessed Weekend!
