It’s that time of year when community groups at church begin to kick off again. This is the first time in years I haven’t been a part of an Aug/Sept kick off as a leader. It feels a little weird…but in a hopeful, what’s next sort of way.
As many of you know, I relocated to Georgia a couple of months ago with my husband and son. When my husband was interviewing out here for a job back in April, the Sunday before his job interview just so happened to be Easter Sunday. We accompanied my brother-in-law and sister-in-law to their church. As I stood there singing, I thought to myself, wouldn’t it be funny if my husband lands this job and we end up at this church.
Less than a week later, he was offered the job and I already had a potential church to get plugged into! We lived in my in-laws basement for about two months while searching for a house to buy in the area. We found one in a neighboring community and began the closing process. Our new house would be nearly 30 minutes from this church. Questions went through my mind. Should we make the drive to this one? I’m certainly used to driving 30 minutes to church. Should we try to find a church closer to our home?
It just so happened that as these questions came, so did possible answers. I knew the church we were attending had several locations in the North Georgia area but, up until this point, I had never paid much attention to where those locations were.
We went to church shortly before moving and the pastor who was delivering the message just so happened to be the pastor from the church located at one of the other campuses. He introduced himself to the congregation before he started his message. And, yep, you guessed it…the campus he was from, just so happened to be in the same town we were about to be moving to. It was only 10 short minutes from our new house.
Last Sunday afternoon was small group sign-up time. I walked around the room getting to know the leaders and getting a feel for where I might belong this Fall. There were some groups I easily ruled out…such as college age student. 😉
Although, all the folks I met were pleasant, nothing felt quite like the right fit until I made my way over to the last group. It was a women’s group and they would be meeting every Wednesday evening. As I stood and chatted with these two leaders, it became clear to me, this is it. This is where I’m supposed to be.
I signed up and I sat down.
Okay, Lord, what’s next?
