Hidden Treasures of Beauty

Yesterday morning I read these words “….life in all its shades is a faith journey.”  There was something about the use of the word shades that captivated my attention.  My thoughts immediately went to those items in life where we can see varying shades of color. These shades will often blend together or complement one another and create beautiful pieces of art. I thought about rainbows, paintings, fabrics and sunrises.

Last night, while scrolling Twitter, someone had posted  this picture of a place known as Rainbow Mountain in Vinicunca, Peru. It was absolutely stunning and immediately took my thoughts back to the quote I came across that morning…life in all its shades is a faith journey.

This morning, I visited a blog post of one photographer’s journey to reach these mountains.  His journey turned into an adventure.  Here’s an excerpt

“I had heard rumors of this incredibly colorful landscape near Ausungate. When I did the Ausungate circuit, I expected to encounter this wild scene. But it turns out the landscape I was looking for was off the circuit, and how to actually get there, very few people seemed to know. After returning from the traditional Ausungate trek, I began looking into Vinicunca for a return trip. But finding information was incredibly difficult. Most people, even locals who’d guided in the Ausungate region for years, had never even heard of this place. But luckily I found someone online who had been there before, and gave me just enough information to find it on Google Earth.” – Eric Hanson

And guess what? His search paid off!  You can see and read more about the beauty he found in his post, Searching for the Rainbow in the Mountain

I love this story. I love the photographer’s determination to keep searching for this beauty he had heard existed. I admire his willingness to think outside the box and travel off the beaten path to discover it. The lesson and reminder for me today?  Sometimes the beauty we are searching for is hidden away like treasure just waiting to be discovered but we have to take the time to look for it.

“All the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Him.”  Colossians 2:3

“If you seek it like silver and search for it like hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and discover the knowledge of God.” Proverbs 2: 4-5
