Into the Beautiful~ got doubt?

Live as if it’s true
And see what God will do

Even believers doubt and question faith sometimes.  Those who say they never do…well, I don’t think they are being completely honest.

We are placing our lives into the hands of someone we can’t see or touch.  Of course there will be moments of doubt along the journey.  It comes down to what we decide to do with that doubt.  That’s where faith enters the picture.

I spent many years running from God.  After falling on my face over and over,  I had the following conversation with God:

Okay, I’m ready to give you the benefit of the doubt, God. I’m tired of falling down.  I’m tired of dead-end streets. What’s the worst thing that could happen if I choose to trust you with 100% of my heart? Well, I might be wrong and my pride will take a hit because I trusted in something that wasn’t logical.  Okay, I’m willing to take that risk.

I’m going to live believing that You can do what You say You can do. I am going to believe that you really are my Savior.  For the time being, I’m going place all my doubt aside (I can always pick it back up and make the choice to do things my way again…You say I have free will.)

What did all this mean?

It meant that when things didn’t follow my timetable or God didn’t “perform” the way I thought He should…instead of getting mad at God, shutting down, or walking away…I held onto Him even tighter.

That shift in behavior, that change in attitude was the beginning. When we choose to allow faith to run the show, it grants God permission to come in and start working on our hearts.  And we He gets a hold of a heart…watch out!

It’s beautiful!

I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back.
~Php 3:12-14 Msg

I can’t say I ever went through one of those “dark nights of the soul” where I fought a titanic battle with belief vs. unbelief. My battle has come from trusting Him to work things out, to always keep His Word. for the most part, I have come to that. But there are times… Love your prayer Eileen. Thanks for your honesty.

Thanks, Bill. You’ve mentioned a big one, Bill. Lack of trust is certainly one that hits me too. We believe yet our actions and our hearts don’t always respond as if we do.

I was flipping channels early this morning and came across an evangelist talking about how “simple” and “easy” faith is. I started thinking that there is NOTHING simple or easy about it. I realized where he was coming from and that he was saying all you have to do is believe. But there are so many diversions and distractions and pushes and pulls that, at least a dozen times every day, my focus is not where it needs to be. How is that simple and easy? Sure, I can go live in a cave where there is nothing to take away my attention. But how is that going to accomplish any good? Isn’t our purpose as Christians to let His light shine through us?

You bring up so many great points, Anne! Thank goodness we are works in progress on this journey. Thank goodness for God’s grace and patience with us. We will not live out our faith perfectly, we will question but when we choose to stick with Him through all the questions, He grows us and uses us.

I can really relate to your post this week…I am basically covering the same type of subject this month, hope. For some reason the phrase “when the going gets tough the tough get going” is coming to mind. Faith in the unseen makes us tough. Maybe it’s that hanging on for dear life that makes us tough. But if we hang for dear life even through those tough times, there are no regrets with God because He always comes through. Bless you!

I am there with Bill. I have never had those really dark times, but I have had to battle with placing my trust fully in Him. This is beautiful, beautiful encouragement!

Unbelief may keep us from God’s greatest blessings. Praise Him for His faithfulness to always be there when we seek Him in faith. Thanks for the great post & for hosting, & God bless!

Great post Eileen…God is forever doing things His way and I have grown to trust Him to know better then me. Not that I always agree with Him and that is where the rub comes in. It is always me lining my heart up with His, not the reverse.
When I or someone else disappoints me I know He will will not for He does work things out for His glory and our best. I personally think our faith will be tested till the day we go home to see Him, then faith will become sight. Again great post sister.

“It comes down to what we decide to do with that doubt. That’s where faith enters the picture.” <– YES!

Oh, to always choose to hold on tighter and tighter.

I think of Mark 9:24 – “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”
