All Hope in One Basket

I shed a few tears yesterday while I was driving to the dump to discard my recycling.

(On a side note, it made me think of this post, another significant dump run I took a few years ago: Love Before Time )

Anyway, back to the trip I took yesterday.  A song came on the radio that my mom and I used to love to sing together during the Christmas season, Mary’s Boy Child/Oh My Lord. It wasn’t the Anne Murray version we both fell in love with but my eyes still leaked a little.

My mom has been gone for 24 years. I cherish each and every one of these moments of remembrance.  And if tears are the price to pay for unwrapping the gift of a beautiful memory, I’ll pay that price every single time.

As I listened to the words again, a couple of verses stood out to me:

“Hark now hear the angels sing
A king was born today
And man will live for evermore
Because of Christmas Day”

I found myself whispering a prayer after those words…I’m banking on this, Lord. Like putting all your eggs in one basket…I’m putting all my Hope in the One born in a basket full of hay.

“Oh my Lord You sent your son to save us.
Oh my Lord Your very self you gave us. Oh my Lord
That sin may not enslave us. And love may reign once more.”

This morning, these were some thoughts I read in my quiet time.

“I am the only Person who was ever sired by the Holy Spirit. This is beyond your understanding. Instead of trying to comprehend My Incarnation intellectually, learn from the example of the wise men. They followed the leading of a spectacular star, then fell down in humble worship when they found me.” – Jesus Calling

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14

And, of course, as soon as I read that verse in John, more song lyrics started playing on my heart.

…Now in flesh appearing
oh come let us adore Him
oh come let us adore Him
Oh come let us adore Him
Christ the Lord

Thought I’d share this great flash mob I came across of Oh Come All Ye Faithful, it’s worth a watch.
