I’m reading Mark Batterson’s book Wild Goose Chase. It’s a few years old but if you have not read it yet, I recommend it. Early on in the book he discusses the idea that when we live our lives led by God’s Spirit, we won’t find Him taking shortcuts. “He loves leading us down the scenic route because that is where we learn our most valuable lessons.”
Can I hear an Amen?!
Although, I had never read anything by this author prior to naming my blog, this has been my experience as well. Hence the name, The Scenic Route.
I woke up this morning with three words on my heart, “armloads of life.” This isn’t an original thought but scripture I quoted several months ago in a blog post I wrote about the rewards of seeking wisdom.
the returns on me exceed any imaginable bonus.
You can find me on Righteous Road—that’s where I walk—
at the intersection of Justice Avenue,
Handing out life to those who love me,
filling their arms with life—armloads of life! “(Proverbs 8: 19-21 Message)
As I read this book, I am reminded on how often in life we underestimate the power of the God’s Spirit working through us. Believers have access to His strength and power and guidance every moment of every day. I want to take hold of these benefits and live them out in my life!
What about you?
let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.
(Galatians 5:25 NLT)
Amen to that! God is thorough in His teaching isn't He? Never taking us down the easy road but always taking us down the best road. I will be checking out that book.
Blessings.
I read that a couple of years ago. Great book!!
"As I read this book, I am reminded on how often in life we underestimate the power of the God's Spirit working through us. Believers have access to His strength and power and guidance every moment of every day. I want to take hold of these benefits and live them out in my life!" The power is right there. Why do we not use it? Why do we try to do things in our our strength? We have access to God. We can go to Him for everything. I also want to take hold of these benefits and live them out!
I haven't read that one Eileen, but it certainly sounds like one I'll have to look into. 🙂
I'm in complete agreement; when we follow the prompting of God's Spirit in our lives, we may find we take directions we never would have thought to, but following His path for us always puts us where we need to be!
Have a Blessed Day!
I love that book! He has another book which I think is even better – In a Pit with a Lion on a snowy day. I want to grab on Jesus with both hands and go wherever this wild ride takes me. Great post!
I want to follow His leading in every way, every day!
