Creative Thoughts

“Mom, I just made something.  I have no idea what it is…but I think it looks really cool!”

These were the words my son said to me this morning before heading off to school.    He was holding something he had made out of PVC pipes.  His comment made me smile.  I was reminded of a lesson I learned a couple of years ago when I decided to start writing again after many years of not.

The thrill of creating is found in the act of creating.  It’s found in the “doing”.

For many years,  I allowed fear to keep me from writing. What if I wrote something and then after all the effort it didn’t end up looking like anything? What if  all my effort was a waste of time? What if the only thing I  accomplished was a  page full of mistakes?  How could that possibly be fun?

But, I’ve learned something about creating.  It’s necessary. It’s a vital part of living…no matter how scary it might be.

Attempting and failing is never a waste of time.  Instead, attempting and failing is real living.

What are you afraid of creating because it might not turn out the way you envisioned?  Don’t let that stop you today.

Amen, “failing is never a waste of time.” In fact the victories are that much sweeter when we’ve failed, tried again and succeeded. Great encouragement Eileen, thank you!

Oh to have the child-like wonder at anything we create and not compare it to what others create. I’m always afraid what I write or paint or do is never good enough. Slowly unlearning this.
