My favorite parking space…

I have a favorite parking space at Walmart. I search for this space when I pull into the parking lot. And, no, it’s not the spot closest to the front door. The ones closest to the door are not my favorite because the chances of actually snagging one of these prime spots without having to make several time eating loops around the parking lot are very slim.

I have never been a fan of circling the lot in hopes of getting a closer spot. It just seems weird to spend time circling when you could have just parked and been inside the store checking things off the shopping list. However, I do feel like I hit the parking space lottery when I see this spot. This here is the jackpot spot!

You see that car in the background? That’s the spot I’m shooting for when I find myself at Walmart. I call it the peace of mind spot.

I don’t know about you but, when I am done shopping, I always have an anxiety filled choice to make. Do I return my buggy to the “Shopping Carts Go Here” designated section or do I just push my little cart up to the top of my parking space and leave it there between the cars? I am always relieved when I see other carts already sitting in these undesignated areas. I then can rationalize my decision in my head. Well, Mr. Cart Retriever Man is gonna have to come over and get that one…I might as well make his trip over here worth it.

When my son was an infant, I also felt I had a good excuse for being a cart litterer. After taking my precious little boy out of the cart and putting him in the backseat of the car I couldn’t very well leave him there all by himself. What kind of mommy would I be if I did that? Sorry Mr. Cart Retriever Man… but think of the children!

Now that my son is seven, I don’t have a good excuse for being a lazy cart handler. Lately, I’ve been challenging myself to always return my cart to where it belongs. But, I still take it just one Walmart trip at a time. However, when I am fortunate enough to come across one of the jackpot spots, I cash in my ticket, and rejoice!

So, I am curious. Does anyone else struggle with this choice?

Eileen, you always make me smile!! 🙂

Yes, I struggled with this too. When my kids were little, I said the same thing. Can't leave the kids alone, so, sorry! Now that they are older and I could leave them for five seconds or could have one of my older children return the buggy, I still, at times, struggle. Especially when I am alone. Do I want to 'obey' and return the buggy, or I am just too tired and lazy to do it. Everyone else does it so why not. I always end up returning it because I reason that at my house, everything has a place and must return to it. So why would I not respect the store in the same way. Great post Eileen!

Oh Eileen you always make me smile, I love this, and it is a great lesson in obedience, just because everyone else is doing it doesn't mean we should do it too. Thanks for making me laugh this morning.

    Blessings to you.

YES! My kids are 9,7 & 5 and I will leave my cart anywhere before walking too far away from them. But, I do try to park near the cart return too. You are not alone my friend 🙂

Ok girls, I'm the person who stops on her way into the store to retrieve those carts that "others" have left just sitting in parking spots. 🙂 lol
When my twins were babies, I always parked right next to the cart return so I could easily get a cart for the two baby seats.
Love your post – you make me smile.

Glad others appreciate the parking spot next to the cart return as much as I do!

Lisa, I aspire to be you someday 🙂 Baby step though 🙂

I always look for a spot next to the buggy return..even if I have to park at the end of the parking lot! Of course, I usually try to make my Walmart trips with NO kiddo's…even then I find myself parking in 'my' spot 🙂

Ok, I feel the need to confess. I don't leave my cart in the parking lot, but I have been known to just leave my cart somewhere in the store. I feel better now that I have confessed. 🙂

Lisa, so is the cart empty or is there groceries in it? 🙂 I've had people steal my cart when I'm in the store. That's why I never leave mine unattended until I have a few items in it!

While I avoid Walmart as often as possible Eileen, I'm right there with you on choosing a space near the cart return wherever I shop. I make the cart retriever's job extra tough though, as I usually park away from all the other cars in empty parts of the lot to avoid getting "dinged". LOL

    Have a Blessed Day!

Yes and no for me. I usually like to park next to the "jackpot spot". If I can't then I don't put the cart away. (I almost always have our 3year old with me) BUt i do like to justify that action with always bringing my own cart into the store at the beginning of each trip from the parking lot… that works for me… 😉

P.S. I don't like to get "dinged" either so I choose the farthest "jackpot spot" in the lot and it is usually empty.
