The Miracle of Sight

“Moses was 120 years old when he died,
yet his eyesight was clear,
and he was as strong as ever.”
– Dt 34:7

I read this verse this morning and I could visualize those words on a tombstone.  What a great way to leave this earth.  Moses finished strong.  Moses did the work.  Moses completed his God-given task.

Moses, although not permitted to enter The Promise Land, was able to look on it from a distance.   And, not only that, his 120 year old eyes were as sharp as ever.  He could take in this breathtaking miracle with crisp clean vision.    As someone who has had to wear glasses since the 4th grade, I think this detail would have been such a blessing!

I can’t help but think about the request from the blind beggar in the New Testament who cried out to Jesus.  The one miracle he wanted more than anything else in the world…”I want to see!”  (Mark 10: 46-52)

Lord, today, let that be our heart’s number one desire.  Help us to see clearly the miracle stretched out in front of us.  To see and comprehend the journey of healing and restoration you are taking each of us on here on this earth.  Help us to trust you fully to lead us safely to the promised land you have in store for us.   Give us the desire to keep the eyes of our heart fully open today so we don’t miss a moment of the miracle!

Me too, Bill. I am constantly needing to refocus my thought and my heart in the right direction.

Not sure whether there’s a connection there or not. But, I’ve always loved that passage in Mark and the reminder of what is truly important in life. To seek healing, to see our need for it, and to see the truth with our spiritual eyes.

    Eileen:

I’m so glad I read your post today. I sat next to a woman today who asked me to pray for her sight today. How interesting to see your beautiful post about different types of sight:

“Help us to see clearly the miracle stretched out in front of us. To see and comprehend the journey of healing and restoration you are taking each of us on here on this earth. Help us to trust you fully to lead us safely to the promised land you have in store for us. Give us the desire to keep the eyes of our heart fully open today so we don’t miss a moment of the miracle!”

    Thank you,
