The Perfect Spot

I cleaned out my kitchen drawer this morning. You know the kitchen drawer I’m referring to, don’t you? That drawer. I watched my husband struggle to open the jammed full drawer in order to retrieve a plastic bag for his sandwich and that was the last straw. Well, I guess it wasn’t the last straw.Β  I ended up finding one of those in that drawer too. πŸ™‚

I decided it was time to dive in and clean out that drawer.Β  Here’s a picture of a few things found.

The weirdest thing discovered would be the broken dishwasher spring.Β  It fell off our ancient dishwasher door a few weeks ago and found its way into that drawer after sitting on our kitchen counter top for a few days.

The sweetest thing I found would be the small notebook with the words “Smile-Β  Jesus Loves You” printed on the cover.

As I cleaned out my messy drawer I thought about how nice it is that God never sets us aside in the kitchen hodge podge drawer.Β  He never hastily hides us out-of-the-way. Β He never looks at us and struggles with finding the proper place for us. We are fearfully and wonderfully made by a Creator who cares so much about us.Β Β  Ephesians 2:10 reminds us that He’s had a plan for our lives from the very beginning.Β  “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”Β  So thankful that God knows the perfect spot for each of us. Our job is toΒ  trust Him.

Oh, and if any of you are in need of twist ties, matches, band-aids, or rubber bands, let me know.Β  I have plenty of extras.

    Eileen,

Did you really have to post this? I mean really Eileen, I have been ignoring THAT drawer pretending it doesn’t exist, and then you had go and write about it and remind me of it (smiles) :). Praise God that He does not just put us in THAT and close it and pretend we don’t exist, He has a wonderful place for each of us, we just have to trust Him. Blessings to you Eileen.

Shanda, believe me, I would have more than one drawer like that too…if my kitchen drawers weren’t so limited. Get busy! πŸ˜‰

Thank you so much for the smile this morning Eileen! We have TWO of “those drawers” in our kitchen, and they’re way overdue to be cleaned out. πŸ™‚

Thankfully, God doesn’t place us in the “junk drawer”, even when we may seem to not be very useful at the time. He knows our hearts, and His plan for our lives, even when we can’t see it.

    Great post!

    Have a Blessed Day!

I have one of those “Smile-Jesus Loves You” notebooks too! It’s in my purse, which could also qualify as a portable junk drawer;)

okay, so i feel both hugely convicted (maybe i’ll get that drawer cleaned out today) but also highly encouraged. what a sweet analogy. i AM so relieved that He doesn’t have a drawer. . . and that He never puts us aside. never relegates us to the “useless.” never decides that we have no other place to be. you just turned my gray, rainy day into one of hope. thank you. really. you have no idea.

I’m so glad God has a perfect spot for me. Your post goes along with what my husband preached on Sunday. We are many parts of One Body and we each have a role to fill. God has placed us where He wants us. We each have a purpose and God has a plan for our lives. Wonderful encouragement, Eileen.

And I have three drawers like that in my kitchen and I am still NOT motivated to clean them out. πŸ˜‰

And if you need any construction paper, post-it notes, or index cards, let *me* know! (I’ve been doing a massive reorganization of our office.) Doing so makes me realize how little we actually use of what we have. It inspires me (again and again) to live with less to be able to give more.

Great reminder in “that” drawer, Eileen. πŸ™‚ Thanks for sharing.
