Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.” Acts 5: 38-39
I read this passage this morning and thought: Now there’s a wise Pharisee.
Even though this Pharisee didn’t grasp many things, his advice seems to indicate that he did have a good understanding of the power of God:
If these men really do have God on their side, and if you choose to fight them…then not only will you fail, but you’ve just picked a fight with the Big Man! Talk about a lose-lose situation.
Since the beginning of time, humans have tried to take their own course of action. And yet, God’s purposes will always prevail.
If God is for us who can be against us? Rom 8:31
In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps. Pr 16:9
Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. Pr 19:21
These verses this morning reminded me of the incredible benefits of being on the same page with God as we move forward. When we take the time to run our ideas by Him, we save a lot of time and a lot of heartache. We stop the tug of war matches. We stop trying to put the square peg in the round hole.
I desire to stay on the winning side today. And the only way I can do this is to let Him lead.
