I’ve blogged quite a bit these last couple of years on the power of God’s presence. The Lord has been reminding me that His presence in the middle of our storms is the one thing we need more than anything else. And, I find myself praying this more and more for the people in my life. I want God’s presence to be so strong and evident in their life and their situation that it literally overwhelms them.
This morning, I thought about how the word “overwhelm” is usually a negative word and a word that brings ideas of weakness and defeat. Yet, when we use it in the context of God overwhelming us with Himself the idea is packed full of peace, and calmness, and strength.
The certainty of God’s presence as we ride through life’s storms is more important than Him fixing our struggles.
Yes, we want Him to fix. Yes, we want Him to heal. But, if we can be overwhelmed by His power and His peace while we walk through a trial then that’s what we need more than anything else in this world.
There is a wisdom and an understanding that comes with His presence. It gives us eyes to make sense of the non-sensical. It’s a wisdom that goes deeper than answers. John 16:33 came to mind as I was writing this post: “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
God has overcome the world and all the trouble and pain we endure while we are here.
Think about that for a moment: The same power that has overcome the world is in the midst of your current trial. And because of that, peace shows up where chaos used to reign. Joy can flow again where fear used to paralyze. Where weakness cries out I can’t, the strength of His presence carries us through another day.
Lord, overwhelm us today with You. We need You! This new Crowder song, I AM has been on repeat for the last month. So beautiful.
