When Exclamation Points Do the Cha-Cha

Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God.” Philippians 1:3

I read this verse this morning and loved the reminder of how thinking and thanking go hand in hand in Paul’s mind. Talk about an attitude of gratitude, talk about living a life of worship…Paul was the expert.

I love how The Message translates this same verse. “Every time you cross my mind, I break out in exclamations of thanks to God.”

I read that sentence and dancing exclamation points immediately came to my mind. This is the best visual I could find…

but what I was really imagining was a group of life-like exclamation points doing the Cha-Cha. A few of them were even wearing skirts. Not that Paul wore a skirt…anyways I’m getting way off point (no pun intended).

Can you imagine the depth of joy we might experience in our day if we could simply “perfect” this habit of thinking and thanking.  A thought comes to mind…we pause and praise.

Today, I’m offering up a challenge to do just that.  Let’s not let a thought escape our brains without turning it into a praise.  Find the blessing.

I woke up this morning after having a dream about my dad. He got up out of his wheelchair and walked across the room and I cheered for him like dancing exclamation points!  I woke up and I was sad that it was just a dream. Yet, despite my initial sadness, I was reminded that God is still worthy of our exclamation point praises even when he doesn’t remove our struggle.  Just look at Paul, who danced and praised with a “thorn” in his side.

Thank you, Lord, for being worthy of our praise even when we don’t understand.  Today, we choose to praise you through the ????? marks.
